FAST IiS
Maturity of SAM Practice in the UK Market – Perception & Reality of Risk!

In this presentation, John Lovelock will share insights from FAST IiS based on research to understand current attitudes, practices and perceptions of UK businesses on the issues surrounding software licensing and software asset management. This research was conducted by IDC as the first of an ongoing programme to plot trends and the resultant feedback provides qualitative information for publishers looking at their markets and customers. The 2008/2009 survey targeted both private and public sector organisations to assess their current understanding of licensing practices, their attitudes towards software acquisition, their perception of new technologies and to understand where they will make changes to benefit from a more cost-effective and risk-free environment in the future.

Micro Focus
Software protection, the need for change – a case study.

Micro Focus recently took a strategic decision to use an external license/protection system to protect its product line. This presentation will explain the rationale behind those decisions and the journey thus far, and some thoughts about going forward.

PwC
Operationalizing SaaS/cloud based business models to create business value: Leading practices discussions

Several thought leaders and analyst data suggest that in the next 3 to 5 years anything from 25 to 42% of the world software will be consumed as a service. It also shows that it will be vendors who adopt a hybrid model (selling software with service) who would gain a significant value impact with SaaS.

Operationalizing a new business model without breaking the old is always difficult especially when both need to work together.  The more successful models are trying to combine products (hardware and or software) with SaaS /cloud type of services and offer this as an integrated bundle to expand the client experience and thereby increase total available market.  It creates tremendous shareholder value growth opportunity. However, operationalizing this mix has many considerations and challenges.

  • Creating, selling, provisioning and supporting bundled products and services as one saleable item globally
  • Supporting volume licensing channels
  • Ability to maintain VSOE and avoid ratable traps
  • Making the client experience seamless across the bundled products and services
  • Increasing cross sell and up-sell potential at the client experience touch points
  • Managing licensing, activation, provisioning for bundled products & services
  • Subscription and services management
  • User generated content management
  • Metering and billing
  • Resiliency of SaaS infrastructure

Our presentation will share with you experiences and approaches to manage the above to successfully implement the transformation to create sustainable business value for the next 3 to 5 years
